How to Provide for Your Horse

Horses have some fundamental requirements for their own life, including access to water, food, friendship, and shelter. Let’s take a closer look into each of these four fundamental pillars of support, one at a time, to determine how we can best serve your horse in each of these areas.

Water- Hydration is one of the most important things you can do for the general health and welfare of your horse. Because a horse will consume anywhere from 5 to 15 gallons of water each day on average, each horse must always have a source of clean, fresh water. The water supply for your horse should be checked many times each day 365 days a year; during the hotter seasons, your horse might consume more because of the heat. One of the best ways of ensuring that your horse always has access to new equipment is to look into anvils for sale

If the pony is a poor drinker or sweats a lot, the availability of fresh, drinkable water alone might not be sufficient. To replenish the salt and other minerals that are lost via perspiration in those horses, giving them a daily electrolyte pill is a wise way to go. This will also encourage your pony to drink more water.

Food- Forage must serve as the primary component of his diet. Your horse should consume 1% to 2% of his body mass in forage daily. If your horse weighs 1,000 pounds, that equates to 10 to 20 pounds of hay or any other roughage. If your horse does not have sufficient access to fresh pasture, or if he has special dietary restrictions that need you to limit the amount of pasture he consumes, giving him hay of high quality is a fantastic method to ensure that he is receiving the forage requirements that are necessary for him.

If your horse needs more calories to fuel his performance and/or keep a healthy body weight and condition, you might want to think about giving him a grain that has been supplemented with vitamins and minerals.

Companionship- Horses are pack animals, and they feel enormous comfort being a member of a group. Your horse will indeed be happier in general if he is allowed to associate with the other horses and exist as part of a herd, even though it can be difficult to find a balance between the many personalities that coexist in the pasture at times.

Shelter- Horses are a species known for their resilience. They are able to successfully regulate their body temperature, which allows them to do well in both hot and cold environments. However, horses must have a shelter where they may go to get out of the weather. Your horse will be able to find cover and get away from the scorching rays of the hot sun if you provide him with a secure and strong shelter. In the winter, he will be protected from the harsh winds, snow, and freezing rain if you shelter him.
