Cairns Regional Gallery Kids Art Classes
The Cairns Regional Gallery’s children’s education programs are age specific classes for 2-16 year olds held in the City, Edmonton and Kewarra Beach. Programs are written and taught by high school teachers and working artists with real teaching experience designed with appropriate learning in mind. Workshops in the Gallery teach children to appreciate recognised art works before using this new knowledge in a work of their own.
Tiny Tackers are aged 2-5. Debra the Zebra believes that children are never too young to learn and this small energetic class is perfect to kick start your child’s interest and education in art and other relevant topics. Parents can choose one class or a series of classes, each class is 45 minutes long.
Pipsqueaks, ages 5-7, builds on the elements of art with a different activity each week for a six week course, one hour per week. It explores techniques, tools and materials including sculpture, textiles and clay modelling as well as paper based work.
The Kids Fine Art Class, ages 8-16 with a class just for teens, is hosted by practising artists Hayley Gillespie and Louisa Ennis Thomas. These six week courses, 1.5 hours per week, teach formal art practice in a fun and friendly environment where children can accelerate their learning while enjoying the gallery experience. Classes also run at Plan B Café Edmonton and Kewarra Beach Community Hall for convenience. All term time classes are capped at 12 children to ensure each child get individual attention. Bookings are essential.
