Palm Cove Beach
Palm cove is one of the most popular beaches in the Cairns areas. With picturesque Double Island in the distance, the jetty to the north, the palms lining the beach and the surrounding rainforest - you will love the truly tropical feel of this beach.
The jetty can be a great source of interest and fun for kids of all ages, whether you are watching or joining in the fishing action, or just wanting a short walk. Be aware that smaller children need to be watched carefully as there is a very real danger of falling over the edge of the jetty. Jumping into the water from the jetty is absolutely discouraged as the water depth below can vary and in stinger season you have the real chance of finding yourself entangled in a deadly jelly fish!
There is a stinger enclosure just south of the jetty that is patrolled from 10am-6pm daily (check that the red and yellow flags are out). The stinger enclosure will not be out unless it is stinger season. For more information, see "stingers"
Slightly south of the stinger net area of the beach is a playground worth visiting. There are a few climbing frames and sand activities, and 2 swings. It is fenced on 3 sides to protect children from the road - and it is open to the beach side. Interesting trees, leaves, seed pods and shells can be seen along the beach and there are a few seats to sit on too. There is limited shade so remember to wear sunscreen and hats. There are many cafe's close by (and some amazing restaurants too) so if you forget the picnic basket you can be assured you won't go hungry.

Clifton Beach is the first beach south of Palm Cove and has a very similar feel, with palm trees and grassy areas next to the sand. There is a lovely shaded playground and BBQ area close to the stinger net. There is ample shade under the trees at the beach and on the grassy areas. The playground and beach can both get quite sunny, however, so be sun smart here!more info
