Biking on the Esplanade

The Cairns Esplanade has a long track dedicated to bikes and other wheeled transport like scooters and rollerskates. All tracks at the esplanade are shared, however, so you still need to be aware of walkers and runners.

Biking around the esplanade is a great way to move between the playgrounds and activity stations. If you are visiting Cairns, bikes can be a great alternative to hiring a car - especially in the cooler, drier seasons.

For the young children, bringing the scooter or trike to muddy's or the pirate ship can be a great addition to the fun already there. If your children are a bit older or you have seats on your bike for them, try getting the family together for a late afternoon ride to the esplanade. Take some sausages for the BBQ or grab a pizza for dinner, and you are keeping active and having fun all in one! Just remember it gets dark quite quickly so make sure you have lights on your bike, or get home in time. It is dangerous to be on the road at dusk.

There are a few places in Cairns you can hire bikes - see our listings under biking and fishing.
