Cairns Regional Gallery
Experience the vibrant visual arts of Tropical North Queensland in this elegant heritage building in the heart of Cairns. Construction of the former Public Curators Building was completed in 1936 - a stately two story building of brick and stone. In 1995, the building was renovated and re-opened as the Cairns Regional Gallery.
Cairns Regional Gallery hosts exhibitions of fine arts from major Australian and international collections covering historical and contemporary art including the work of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.
Cairns Regional Gallery’s Public Programs consist of workshops, forums, guided tours, children’s activities and an education program designed specifically for schools and tertiary education centres.
Public Programs are accessed by all ages, from 2 year olds to adults.
- Holiday workshops are offered during every school holiday period. Workshops are hosted by local artists and based on exhibitions on display in the Gallery.
- Tiny Tacker T Days are designed for 2-5 year olds. Young children with their carers are treated to a morning of art appreciation, story telling and a creative activity.
- Kids Art Days are held throughout the school term on Saturday afternoons. Children enjoy a tour of the Gallery followed by a workshop based on artworks on display.
FREE FIRST SATURDAY
Take the opportunity to discover and explore the everchanging exhibitions on display at Cairns Regional Gallery. With 30 exhibitions on display each year, there is always something new to delight you whenever you visit.
On the first Saturday of each month, we offer free entry from 10:00am - 5:00pm.
The cafe attached to the Gallery (Perotta's) is great. It has a wonderful menu selection, great coffee and attentive wait staff. It can get busy on weekends, but it is worth waiting for a table if the kids are patient. High chairs available.

Cairns Indoor Sports
The Cairns indoor sports "shark cage" centre provides excellent sporting facilities and competitions in Manunda and the whole Cairns area. The relaxed venue is also available for function and party hire.more info
End Credits Film Club
Although not specifically for kids, teenagers could be interested in the End Credits Film Club. Originally formed in the old Palace Cinema, End Credits is a non profit organisation. Incorporated in Cairns, Far North Queensland, End Credits Film Club is dedicated to sourcing and screening non mainstream films for it's members and the general public.more info
Barron Valley Gymnastics
The Barron Valley Gym is a great place to get the kids active while having lots of fun at the same time. They run classes for kids from the time they can walk right up to teen and adult competition preparation. This is a perfect way to get the kids absolutely exhausted and ready for a great afternoon nap!more info
Khacho Yulo Ling Buddhist Centre Childrens morning
Khacho Yulo Ling Buddhist Centre holds a Children's morning once a month for all interested families. It is always the second Saturday of the month unless there are weekend teachings on that weekend. We start at 10am and finish at noon, cost is by donation.more info
Cairns Recreation Centre
The Cairns Recreation Centre boasts an indoor skating rink, Rock climbing Wall, 4 indoor soccer areas, 4 indoor volleyball courts, European handball court, largest indoor rebound soccer field in North Queensland, indoor hockey, inline hockey, indoor and outdoor speed skate tracks, artistic skate, remote control car racing track and is suitable for badminton, indoor archery and a host of other indoor sports and activities.more info

CoCA Centre of Contemporary Arts
The Centre of Contemporary Arts Cairns is a significant piece of arts infrastructure developed by the Queensland Government and operated by Arts Queensland. It comprises two performance based venues, The Theatre (238 seat black box theatre) and The Space, (a large flexible open performance and rehearsal space), two international standard A-class galleries, gallery shop, studio, and office accommodation for small to medium funded companies JUTE Theatre Company and KickArts Contemporary Arts. The Centre also provides a home for End Credits Film Club who are represented through a regular program of non mainstream cinema.more info
Crafting at Bunnings Masters and Officeworks
The big chain stores of Officeworks, Bunnings and Masters run free crafting classes for kids over the age of 3 (although younger ones are OK to attend but will need some hands on help). These sessions explore different ways to make and create, with all materials provided.more info
