Rustys Markets

Rusty's Market is a local institution. A wonderful and colourful place to get your fruit and veg (and of course grab a coffee and a samosa or croissant)

From an insignificant beginning of some 6 stall holders Rusty’s has grown into an enormous three day event with over 180 stall holders. It has become renown for its carnival atmosphere, colourful stall holders, sumptuous displays of exotic fruit, vegetables, exotic flowers, bric-a-brac, delicatessens, specialty products & an excellent selection of food & beverage stalls.

Rusty’s is named after the late Emrys “Rusty” Rees, who developed & expanded the market into the mega event it is today. The new owners, Gilligan’s Backpacker Hotel & Resort, have faithfully carried on the tradition & Rusty’s continues to offer it’s weekly delights to shoppers & tourists alike.

Rusty’s Market is now an established Cairns tourist icon & certainly worth a visit. When in Cairns why not drop in any Friday to Sunday.  Located in the CBD between Grafton & Sheridan Streets, just ask any local.

There is often music played at the northern end of the grafton st side of the market. We usually do the rounds for fruit and veg then grab a coffee and sit and relax. The kids love devouring some fresh fruit and there is always plenty of friendly faces around. Especially good for those of us with early risers!

The streets around are frequented by parking inspectors so be aware of restrictions and ticket requirements on Friday and Saturdays.

Where: between Grafton & Sheridan Streets, and between Shield and Spence streets. (view map)
